Manually Adjusting The Z-Axis Offset

    Why Change the Z-axis Offset

If your filament isn’t sticking to your build plate, the Smart Extruder+/Smart Extruder is probably printing a little too far from the build plate. Similarly, if no filament is coming out of the nozzle, or you’re hearing a clicking noise when your MakerBot Replicator starts a print, your extruder may be a little too close to the build plate.

In either of these instances, the first thing to do is make sure you’re running the latest version of the MakerBot Print software, that you have the latest firmware installed on your MakerBot Replicator, and that your build plate is level.

How to Adjust the Z-axis Offset

    Using MakerBot Print:
    1. Open MakerBot Print and select your printer from the bottom right-hand side of the screen.

    2. Select Utilities.

    3. Select Calibration

    4. Select Z-axis offset. Adjust this by only -0.10mm (closer) at a time, moving the extruder closer to the build plate, and choose to Apply.

    5. Try the print again and see if the Z offset has to be readjusted. Please note that you may have to do this a few times to get to the ideal distance between the nozzle and the build plate.

    Using MakerBot Mobile :

Before you begin, make sure your printer is on your local network, and that you’ve connected to the printer at least once before using Print or Mobile.

    iPhone:

    1. Open the MakerBot application. Click on the bottom tab to choose the printer.

    2. Select Utilities.

    3. Select Z-Offset.

    4. Select Manual Offset.

    5. Tap on the red Adjust Z-Offset.

    6. Scroll to -0.10 mm (closer). Select Apply.

    7. Try a test print. Repeat with one notch closer select, if necessary.

    Android:

    1. Open the MakerBot application. Tap on the red icon on the bottom right side.

    2. Select Utilities.

    3. Select Z-Offset.

    4. Select Manual Offset.

    5. Tap on the Z-Offset value currently in the display (should be 0.0 mm).

    6. Select -0.10 mm (closer). Tap on Apply Changes.

    7. Try a test print. Repeat with one notch closer selected, if necessary.
