How to Save a Model

    Save to Your Computer

Add a model or models to the build plate in the Prepare view. Make any adjustments to size, placement and slicer settings.

    • To save as a Thing, OBJ, or STL file: Click Save to Library and then Save Local File. A Save dialog will open. Use the dropdown menu to select a file type, then name the file and save it to your computer.
    • To save as a .makerbot file (Fifth Generation MakerBot 3D printers): Click Export Print File and then Export Now. In the Export dialog, name the file and save it to your computer. To print a .makerbot file later, go to File > Print from File. Select your .makerbot file and click Open.
    • To save as an X3G, S3G, or GCode file (older MakerBot 3D printers): Click Export Print File and then Export Now. In the Export dialog, select the file type you want, and then name the file and save it to your computer.

Note: MakerBot Desktop is no longer in development. To upgrade to our newer software, please install MakerBot Print. If you are using a Replicator 2X, we recommend continuing with the MakerBot Desktop software.
