Loading Filament

    Which Filament?

The MakerBot Replicator Mini+ is optimized for small (0.22 kg) spools of MakerBot PLA filament.

    Installing a Filament Spool

Insert the spool into the filament spool pocket in the back of the MakerBot Replicator Mini+, with the filament windows on the spool facing forward, so that the spool unwinds in a counterclockwise direction. Be careful to keep the spool tightly wound at all times.

Locate the end of the spooled filament and pull it free from the spool. Insert the end of the filament into the filament guide tube. Push filament through the tube until the free end emerges from the end of the guide tube.

Loading Filament into the Smart Extruder+

    Via MakerBot Print:

    1. Open MakerBot Print and connect your Replicator Mini+ either through the USB cable or your Wifi Network.

    2. Select the Mini+ from the Printers menu.

    3. Select Filament.

    4. Select Load Filament. Wait for the extruder to heat to 215 degrees.

    5. Cut the end of your filament to create a clean edge. You can use scissors or wire cutters to cut a clean edge on the end of your filament. You don't want to load anything with a bulged, twisted or sharp edge.

    6. Once the extruder's temperature reaches 215 C, grasp the top of the extruder assembly and push the filament into the extruder’s loading tube until you can feel the motor pulling the filament in. If you’re running into a problem during this process, unload the filament and repeat this step. It may help to push the lever on the side of the extruder and gently feed filament towards the hot end until you see the filament being pulled in by itself. This procedure is shown below. NOTE - If you’re having trouble loading filament, do not apply extra force during the loading process

    6. Once you see filament extruding from the bottom of the extruder, select OK to stop the process.

    7. Your filament is now successfully loaded.

**Note: If you’re changing colors, you’ll need to run the Smart Extruder+ for a few moments to clear out the old color before clicking Done.

    Via MakerBot Mobile:

    1. Open the MakerBot Mobile App and connect to the MakerBot Replicator Mini+.
    2. Open the MakerBot Mobile App and connect to the MakerBot Replicator Mini+.
    3. Tap Filament.
    4. Tap Load Filament and then Continue. The Smart Extruder+ will start to heat up. When the Smart Extruder+ is fully heated, the extruder motor will start feed filament in the appropriate direction.
    5. Cut the end of your filament to create a clean edge.
    6. Grasp the top of the extruder assembly and push the filament into the extruder's loading tube until you can feel the motor pulling the filament in. If you're running into a problem during this process, unload the filament and repeat step 5. It may help to press the lever on the side of the extruder and gently feed filament towards the hot end at this point.
    7. When you see plastic emerging from the extruder nozzle, tap Done.
