Installing the Extruder
How to Install the Smart Extruder+/Smart Extruder
Unwrap the Smart Extruder+/Smart Extruder and press it against the back of the extruder carriage, with the connector pins facing the front of the MakerBot Replicator Mini. Magnets will lock the extruder into place.
Note: It might not be obvious where to attach the extruder if the gantry is positioned all the way at the back of the printer. When your MakerBot Replicator Mini is paused or not printing, use both hands, one at each end of the gantry, and apply equal pressure to move the gantry forward. It is not safe to manually move the gantry when your 3D printer is printing.
Once the extruder is in place, open the Print Monitor panel in MakerBot Desktop. If the extruder is not properly attached, you will have the option to click Attach Smart Extruder. The carriage motor will turn to ensure that the extruder fits snugly against the extruder carriage. If your MakerBot Replicator Mini doesn’t recognize the extruder, remove it from the carriage and then reattach it.
You can install or change extruders at any time as long as your MakerBot Replicator Mini is turned on. If your MakerBot Replicator Mini is printing, open the Print Monitor panel in MakerBot Desktop and click Pause. Wait until the temperature of the Smart Extruder+ or Smart Extruder cools to at least 50°C. Remove the extruder and dismiss the error dialog that pops up. Follow the instructions in the Print Monitor panel to attach the new extruder. If the Print Monitor panel still displays the Attach Extruder button once you have attached the extruder to the extruder carriage, click it. Then click Resume.
