How To Print

    1. Find a Model

There are several ways to find a model to print:

    1. Find a model on MakerBot Thingiverse. Select the Explore Thingiverse option on MakerBot Print and either browse through the hundreds of thousands of designs or search by keyword to find a model to print. Once you find a model you like, download the file(s) to your computer. Click Add Models in MakerBot Print and navigate to where the file(s) was/were saved on your computer. It will then appear on the virtual build plate.
    2. Design your own model. Save your model as one of the supported file types. Click on the Folder symbol in the top left corner and then click Add Models in MakerBot Print and navigate to where the file is saved on your computer. It will then appear on the virtual build plate.

    Mac: MakerBot (.makerbot), STL (.stl)

Windows: MakerBot (.makerbot), STL (.stl), SolidWorks (.sldprt, .sldasm), InventorOBJ (.ipt, .iam), IGES (.iges, .igs), STEP AP203/214 (.step, .stp), CATIA (.CATPart, .CATProduct), Wavefront Object(.obj), Unigraphics/NX (.prt), Solid Edge (.par, .asm), ProE/Creo (.prt, .prt., .asm, .asm.), VRML(.wrl), Parasolid (.x_t, .x_b)

Note: Users cannot import MakerBot (.makerbot) files.

    2. Prepare Your Model

Once you have your model open in the virtual build plate you can change its orientation, scale it up or down, or even add another model to the virtual plate. See the section on Using MakerBot Print for more information.

You may also want to change some settings before printing. Click Print Settings and choose if you want to print with supports. You can also choose your print mode. See the section on advanced print settings for more information and other options.

    3. Send the File to Your MakerBot Replicator Mini

    1. Click the Print button to slice your model and send the file to your MakerBot Replicator Mini. MakerBot Print will ask to you to clear out the Build Plate. Click Start Print to confirm that the build plate is clear and to start the print. If you're connected via Wi-Fi you can also confirm your print by pressing the Action Button.
    2. The Action Button will glow red, indicating it is heating the Smart Extruder+/Smart Extruder. When the extruder is fully heated, the MakerBot Replicator Mini will start to print your model.
    3. To cancel the print, click Cancel in the Print Monitor.

In MakerBot Print, click the Estimates and Print Preview symbol to see:

    • estimated print time
    • estimated amount of filament your print will use
    • a rendering of what your print will look like

    Post-Print Steps

    1. Remove Your Print

When your print finishes, wait for the extruder to cool, then remove the build plate from the MakerBot Replicator Mini. Remove the print from the build plate, and peel the raft off of the bottom of the print.

Every object printed on your MakerBot Replicator Mini will be built on a raft. The raft acts as a base for your object and for any support structures used. It will also ensure that everything adheres well to the build plate. The raft will be easily removable once you remove your finished object from the build plate.

    2. Share On Thingiverse

If you are printing a model that was downloaded from Thingiverse, it’s nice to let the model’s designer know. You can go to your printed model’s Thingiverse page, then click I Made One. You’ll have the opportunity to upload photos of your print and add a description. When you’re ready, click Create to link your photos to the original design’s Thing page.
