How to Tighten the Y and X-Axis Pulleys

Loose X and Y-axis pulleys in your MakerBot Replicator can result in belts slipping during printing. If you notice shifts on the X or Y-axis during a print, it might be time to tighten your pulleys.

    Tightening the Y-Axis Pulley

The Y-axis pulley is attached to the motor mounted in the back right corner of the MakerBot Replicator. Move the gantry forward until you have access to the set screw holding the pulley to the motor shaft. Use the 1.5mm hex wrench from the Accessory Box to tighten the set screw. This video shows how to tighten the Y-axis pulley:

    Tightening the X-Axis Pulley

The X-axis pulley is attached to the motor mounted on the right side of the gantry. Slide the extruders to the left until you have access to the set screw holding the pulley to the motor shaft. Use the 1.5mm hex wrench from the Accessory Box to tighten the set screw.

If you need additional help, you can watch the X-axis pulley being tightened in the beginning of the following video. A MakerBot Replicator 2 is used in the video, but the process is similar:
